River Tables ¬

A purists version of a River table consists of a plank section cut off a tree, split in two

with its inner edges reversed to the outer, then resin poured through the middle

connecting the two so effectively creating a river effect. They are often referred to as

live edge tables, because the living inner part of the tree has been brought to the outer edge, hence "live edge".

(Thus the above are not really River Tables, & their only similarity comes from using a resin medium to construct). 

A Swamp Table¬

Is the engulfment or partial engulfment of timber & would not necessary have any resemblance to a river, but rather a vision of an object in still water or space.

Swamp - Bog - Fen or Marsh¬

A Swamp differentiates itself from bog, marsh or fen in that it can support woody

plants & trees, whilst a bog or a fen due to their poor soil & high peat content does not. The

work of this craftsman could in reality be called a bog table or fen table …or even pond or pool

table, as it is the depiction of wood semi-submerged or submerged in still water. It is not

purely choice that he has chosen "Swamp Table" to define his creations, because another

characteristic of his work is that resin sustains the wood, as the swamp sustains a tree.
